I am out of the country on holidays and will not be home for three more days. I think I was drugged and raped last night. I can't remember everything but am getting some flash backs of a man I met in the bar sexually assaulting me in my room. I woke up this morning without my clothes on. Could I have caught something? What tests can I have done and what medication should I ask for? I'm scared and confused.

Call your travel health insurance provider. Follow their recommendations. Go to the hospital nearest you and keep your hospital bills. If you don't speak the language, take someone with you who can interpret for you. The hotel manager or the "holiday coordinator" may be able to assist you. You may want to contact the Consulate from your home country, for example the Canadian Consulate if you are from Canada. If the sexual assault occurred within the last 72 hours, Emergency Contraceptive Pills (morning after pills) could help to prevent a pregnancy. They are available in most countries. Talk to the Doctor about medication for protection from possible sexually transmitted diseases. When you return home consider going to your family doctor or a Sexual Assault Care Centre. In Ontario, you could call 1-800-668-2437 for a place near you.
