I was forced to have sex last night. It was the first time for me and now I have pain when I go to the bathroom for #1. Do you think I caught something? I'm afraid to tell anyone.

When sex is forced on someone, it can cause trauma (abrasions or cuts) or an infection, which could cause pain when you urinate. If the pain is related to trauma, skin irritation or cuts, you can decrease the pain by sitting in the bathtub with water when you urinate. Water dilutes the acidity in the urine, and it is more comfortable for you to urinate. The small tears or cuts should heal within a few days and you should see a doctor if the discomfort lasts longer. If the pain is caused by an infection, an antibiotic will be required. We can help you at the Sexual Assault Care Centre. You may want to talk to a nurse or doctor about your concerns. A nurse or doctor at the Sexual Assault Care Centre or any hospital Emergency Department or Public Health Department can talk with you about these worries. If you live in Ontario, call the AIDS and Sexual Health InfoLine, 1-800-668-2437, for a list of places you could go.
