In Your Own Words

Poems

This section is for you.  It's a way to express your feelings and share your experiences.  People have requested a place on the site where they can find hope and support, so we encourage submitting poems that will help provide a better understanding of sexual assault reactions, as well as providing hope to the survivors still struggling with their feelings.

A review of all submissions is part of the selection process.  Please do not give out any information that would help anyone identify or locate you.  Use a nickname or initials when signing your poem.  All reference to your location and identity will be deleted.

You can submit your poem at

Victim

Why must I be the one to suffer?
I don't want your pity
Your apologetic stares
I want my power
My strength
My innocence
But yet it stolen from me
I needed protection
I needed not to be hurt
To be a child
I needed understanding
But yet I continued to suffer
I felt it my fault
I was so strong
Not a victim
Until I was.

Determined

I am determined
to move on,
let go, live my life,
and respect myself.

I am DETERMINED
to do these things.
